The Phenomenon that is #March4JusticeAU

We are all presented with opportunities every day in myriads of ways. Whether we choose to pursue an opportunity is dependent upon many things. When an opportunity of a lifetime presented itself to me on Monday 1 March I decided to jump in boots and all. Definitely a sliding door moment for me.

This once in a lifetime opportunity was joining the March 4 Justice organising team at its inception.

How did #March4JusticeAU burst onto the scene so quickly and how did it capture the attention of the nation as well as the international media?

It started on Sunday 28 February 2021, when …

No, we are not there yet – Achieving Equality in 2021

I am a bit tired and frustrated to be honest. I wasn’t expecting to start this article in honour of International Women’s Day 2021 this way, but here we are. I might be so bold as to claim that the majority of us (women) are tired of repeating ourselves over and over again and feeling like we keep fighting the same battles that were supposed to be won decades ago. I mean I was a teenager at the height of the Women’s Liberation Movement in the 1970s – I am Woman hear me roar still rings in …

It’s Women’s Health Week (7 – 11 September). This is a national campaign, raising awareness of the importance of maintaining good health and well-being for all women and girls.

As a woman who’s been in business and sales for over 30 years, a business owner for 25 years of those years and a working mother for 22 years, I thought I’d weigh into this topic and share …

Generation Equality in Sales = much better sales results

This Sunday, 8 March 2020, marks International Women’s Day and the United Nations’ theme for 2020 is:

I am Generation Equality: Realizing Women’s Rights.

The theme is aligned with UN Women’s new multigenerational campaign, Generation Equality, which marks the 25th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action.

Given the theme of Generation Equality it seems only apt that we take a look at what women and men can learn from each other when it comes to having successful sales careers. But before I dive into the topic in more depth here is a brief history on how …

It’s time to be taken seriously – no more Harvey Weinsteins please

In October 1983, I found myself in the clinical room of a middle aged medical doctor whom I was meeting for the first time. I was not a patient, I was a 21 year old medical sales representative doing her job.

He was a doctor in my sales territory. I was new to professional selling. I was on my own. Nothing unusual here except that when I came into his room and sat down, he stood up and went to lock the door then came over to me, sat down beside me and attempted to hand me a glass of whisky.

I …

The Power of Women in Sales Leadership

As the New York Stock Exchange is now looking at “employee engagement” as a significant predictor of higher share value and market return, and given we are all competing, not just for clients and market share but for good employee talent, maybe a key performance indicator for sales management could be in Organisational Citizenship Behaviour (OCB).

I came across some recent research into sales management, and it got me thinking about how team leaders were not allowed to “mother” their sales teams.

A loaded term, “mothering”, and without proper definition creates myths and innuendo where none should exist. The following research piece …

Men are from Mars. Women are from Venus.

Last week I explained that my blog is called Sell Like A Woman because there is an increasing body of research overseas showing that woman are often outperforming men in achieving sustainable results in sales and client relationships. And I promised you I would start to highlight, from my research, what successful sales women do especially well. So here is your first snippet.

Men are from Mars. Women are from Venus.

I asked 50 highly successful sales women across a wide variety of industries about the differences between male and female sales people.

There was a uniform feeling among all the women interviewed …

Get me a woman

Some of you may be wondering why my blog is called “Sell like a woman”. First, Sell like a woman is not a feminist manifesto nor is it a male bashing exercise.

The creation of the title was inspired by an increasing body of research overseas showing that woman are often outperforming men when it comes to achieving real and sustainable results in sales and effective sustainable client relationships.

This led me to begin my research project and the book I am now writing, also called “Sell Like A Woman”. I have always been curious about women and their success in sales …
