Company which started with $3000 wins business award

Barrett Consulting Group in High St, Armadale, has been crowned the state's Small Business
of the Year for a company with fewer than 10 staff.
Established with just $3000 in 1995, the small company is soon
expected to turnover $1 million.
Company founder Susan Barrett has been the driving force behind
the successful company but she attributes the triumph to her. five
other staff and their commitment for success.
The Armadale company, chosen ahead of five other finalists,
specialises in improving the sales performance of companies and private organisations.
The staff focus on the area of organisational behavior and also work closely with an
American psychological company.

"People have obviously recognised something in us," she said. "It is encouraging to do well
and a terrific indicator for us."
Ms Barrett admits taking the plunge to form her own business
was nerve-racking but said she was determined and knew what she
wanted to do.
She said having confidence in yourself and your staff contributed
to success and a good relationship with clients.
The company's slogan of "Never what you expected, always what
you need" best sums up our commitment, she said.
Small Business and Tourism Minister Ms Louise Asher, also the
Member for Monash Province which encompasses part of
Stonnington, praised the Barrett Consulting Group.
She said being the small business minister and having a regional winner
in her electorate was something special.
The annual business awards are sponsored by Telstra and the State Government.
The South Yarra manufacturer, The House of Winston Pty Ltd, was
a finalist in the category for manufacturers with fewer than 60 employees.
